Featured Artist Friday: Meet Amy
Posted on March 24 2017
Amy is the lady boss behind Miss Design Girl. She does a little bit of everything including designing charming prints + paper, hand lettering and web design. When she's not busy working on items for her shop, you'll find her spending time with her family and pup exploring Alaska, drinking mass amounts of coffee + La Croix ... oh and planning her next Disney trip!
We asked Amy a few questions to help us get to know her more + here's what she said:
1. How does a typical day progress for you? / Do you have any morning rituals?
I start the day by getting my son off to school, grabbing a cup of coffee (usually Starbucks) and sitting down to the computer. I ALWAYS start with a checklist and work my way through it as the day progresses. I work on emails along with any urgent items. After all of that is out of the way my "creative" time begins. This might be updating my site or blog, working on a hand lettered quote or designing a new product. My trusty side kicks are my schnoodle pup Cookie, my coffee and a can of La Crouix. The rest of the day is filled with family and homework- mom life.
2. How do you kick off a new week with a fresh start?
I start the week by going over my calendar. I plan my work schedule around family obligations and appointments first. I then prioritize what I want to accomplish first with work and go from there.
3. What are your biggest struggles with being an artist?
I think when you’re a mom and you work from home the work life balance struggle is real. It's hard to turn off work when it's staring at you in the face. I have a terrible habit of checking my phone or working on the computer in the evening because I feel the need to complete a project.
4. Do you have a favorite type of music or artist you listen to while creating?
I usually listen to the amazon music app, one of the stations…my music interests vary and I enjoy a little bit of everything. I’m currently listening to the harry potter soundtrack. #nerdalert
5. What are your biggest goals for this year?
My biggest goal is to gain exposure for my shop and keep growing while balancing family life.
